A role has become available within the IT team for a Systems Administrator. This position is a crucial part of the IT team as you assist in the design and future state of IT infrastructure and the technical environment. This role reports to the IT Operations Manager.

 

You will play a key role in designing, operating, and continuously improving the organisation’s IT platforms and infrastructure across on‑premises, cloud, and hybrid environments. This includes servers, identity services, networks, databases, endpoints, and core Microsoft cloud platforms.

The role is responsible for ensuring systems are secure, reliable, and well‑managed, and for providing high‑level operational support to users on land and at sea. You will contribute to incident and problem management, system monitoring, change implementation, automation, and resilience planning, with a strong focus on service quality, security, and continuous improvement.

 

To be successful in this role you will be a strong communicator with proven experience as a Systems Administrator or similar role, and strong capability across most of the following areas:

 

Core Platforms & Infrastructure

  • Microsoft Windows Server and core infrastructure services, including Active Directory / identity services
  • Virtualisation platforms (VMware and/or Microsoft Hyper‑V)
  • Network fundamentals, architectures, and operational support

Cloud, Identity & Endpoint Management

  • Microsoft 365 and Azure services in a production environment
  • Identity and access management, including Azure AD / Entra ID
  • Endpoint and configuration management using tools such as Intune and/or System Center Configuration Manager

Operations, Resilience & Security

  • Backup and recovery solutions, disaster recovery practices, and incident response
  • Monitoring, system health, and operational support of business‑critical systems
  • Cyber security best practices, including secure configuration, patching, and least‑privilege access

Ways of Working

  • Experience working in a service‑oriented IT environment, including incident, problem, and change management
  • Scripting or automation experience (e.g. PowerShell) to improve efficiency and consistency (desirable but not essential)
